IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Training:

This IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) course is for delegates to learn to correctly perform in-service inspections of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) / Access Platforms to ensure safety and to meet legal requirements.

The IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) course is aimed at operators who work in positions that mean they have to prepare and conduct a IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (INSP) on various types of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).

IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDIs) and in-service inspections are a vital part of a service plan together with six-monthly/annual* inspections as stipulated above to ensure that MEWPs remain safe to use.

*All delegates wishing to attend the IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (INSP) training course must have successfully passed the IPAF Operator Course prior to attending and hold a valid IPAF PAL Operator Card in the categories that they wish to be trained for a minimum of 6 months 

The training requires candidates to undertake a written test and practical assessment.

On successful completion, delegates will be able to access their  IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) certification via the ePAL app. Should a physical PAL card and/or certificate be required, this must be requested at time of booking and will be charged at an extra cost.  The IPAF – International Powered Access Federation licence is internationally accepted and is valid for 5 years.

Entry requirements: Delegates must have a good understanding of English at operative level and have held a valid IPAF Operator/Demonstrator licence for a minimum of 6 months. The course content is suited to advanced operators’ levels.

This one-day IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) course is made up of the following topics:

  • Limitations and use of mobile elevating work platforms
  • Identifying controls, safety devices and warning alarms
  • Daily and routine inspection and servicing requirements
  • Setting up in preparation for work
  • Ground and site conditions
  • Safe operating techniques
  • Emergency lowering procedures
  • Manufactures instruction manuals
  • Handover
  • Different hire terms and conditions
  • The use of fall arrest equipment
  • Multiple choice test paper
  • Practical demonstrating test

On successfully completing this course, you’ll receive an IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) certificate. All IPAF certification is issued electronically via ePAL.  The International Powered Access Federation licence is recognised internationally.

Delegates will be required to download the IPAF ePAL app onto their device to access any certification they hold with IPAF prior to the training taking place.

Should a physical PAL card and/or certificate be required, this must be requested at time of booking and will be charged at an additional cost.

  • PPE Required: Safety Helmet, Safety Boots or Shoes, Hi-Vis Vest and Full body harness and adjustable restraint lanyard.

Assessment details

The qualification is assessed through a theory assessment paper which the learner must successfully pass then complete the practical assessment . Once completed the delegate will be awarded the IPAF Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) qualification.
